05/07/10 - Paradise...

Posted 5/10/10. Last Friday, I rode my "hog" (recumbent tricycle) down to our Post Office to check on a package (it was there, but the Post Office did not notify me). Being close to the water (Gulf of Mexico), I rode down to it to take a few pictures.

It seems as though the summer has arrived early. High humidity and temperatures in the high 80s. I'm sorry if you desire that, and your weather isn't complying. A lot of the U.S. is having terrible weather right now, as well as other parts of the world. I guess I'm lucky there... :)

Anyhow, it was a beautiful day (around 11AM), so I took a few photos...

Looking west from the old Crystal Beach boat ramp, click to enlarge

Sailboats moored offshore to the southwest

My "hog."

An Ibis, the mascot for Miami University, which is about 5 hours south of here

My goal was to put up pictures as above. Unfortunately, I spent a LOT of time experimenting with slide show options that seemed intuitive at first, counter-intuitive next, and low quality at the end. I thought it was a good option at fist but returned to my usual practice after a few hours... Losing that time did aggravate me, but not for long...

Mark,

I think you may have found your new niche -- taking great pics! I think you ought to do more of that. If you get any nature scenes (wetlands, marshes, etc), be sure to forward them to Jackie S -- she paints those beautiful pics! She loves it when people share good ones with her.

Glad to know you're getting out and about on your "hog" -- good exercise, as well as enjoyment of the nature around you.

Thanks for sharing; great post!

Much love,
Mary Gregory & the clan

Can you pop a wheelie on the 'hog'? That would be youtube worthy...

Not that I'm encouraging such irresponsible behavior or anything. (Maybe BM could do it!) 8-)

Hey Mark,

Meant to give you Jackie's blog site in case you didn't have it: schindehette.blogspot.com

Uhhhhh...forget the wheelie suggestion by Carson! We don't need any injuries (sorry, Carson, for being a mother here...lol).

Take care,
Mary G.

Mary,

Thanks! Nature did the work! Those pictures pale in comparison to others I have taken - with a much better camera. I hope to post (many others) soon, on a different website, but the blog will have a link to it! :)

I am familiar with Jackie's art and her blog. She has probably been to one of my favorite places, Homossassa - like old FL, saw grass fields, Palm & oak islands, waterways. Just over an hour north of me and west of her...

Carson,

Unfortunately, I doubt anyone can pop a wheelie on it, but that would be a great YouTube search!

Now, with a little engineering help... I don't have the time now, but you've got me thinking...

your hog rides have a much nicer view than our muddy rivers!

Hope you get great results on the 20th.

Rico,

Muddy rivers - still the BEST city view from Mount Washington! Although I'd likely get hit by a car on my hog.

I hope that you and your family are doing well!

Mark,

I'm so sorry to hear about our loss of you!

You and I were good friends through elementary school up until the time that you and your family moved away from Moon Township. I still have fond memories of the birthday party that your family threw for you in your new house. You were a really good friend back then and I am even more sorry now than ever that we lost touch soon afterwards.

It's funny the things we remember of our friends from so long ago isn't it? I remember your childhood fascination with Ziggy and the nickname your mom called you - which I remember to be something along the lines of "Parkey" or something like that.

Again, I am sad to hear of your passing; but I truly think the world was better off with you in it and I only wish the best for your love ones!

Mike
