02/26/09 - Mini - Adventure

So, Monday 2/26, I went on a mini-adventure with my father. "Mini-adventure" because I don't currently get out of my house much... He was driving down to the Ft. Meyers area (about 2.5 hours south) to visit his friend Duane and his sister Lou who is on vacation with her husband Gene.

The image above depicts the day's travels as recorded by a GPS clipped to my belt loop. The images below show more detailed GPS maps of our destinations. Red outlines show where the detailed (magnified) areas would be on the less detailed maps.

This is a closer shot of the Ft. Meyers area.

When we got to Duane's, we took his boat out for a few hours. It was a nice trip, and a very stable ride. His dog, Penny, was also aboard for the ride and you could tell she liked it very much also.

Where the boat journey took us... The following was our path on the boat.

After we had eaten some lunch on the boat ride at Duane's and came back, we said our farewells, and then headed to the campground that Lou and Gene were at. We ended up visiting them, and having a grilled dinner as well.

My path, wandering around the campground

Lou and Gene's campground was on the Caloosahatchee River. Many people do not know this, but you can follow this river with a boat and it leads to Lake Okeechobee, and if you then take the St. Lucie Canal, you'll come out on the east coast of Florida in Stuart.

Since I mentioned the Ockeechobee Waterway, here's an official map of it.
