04/12/10 - Tiredness...

Snore, zzzzz, snore, huh? I received radiation #10 of 13 about 2.5 hours ago. Before the session, I asked one of my radiation oncologist's nurses if I should feel any fatigue. She basically said that I would experience it, and it would likely occur sooner and have a stronger effect since I have received radiation three times before.

Once again, I was wrong, thinking that only radiation to my brain would cause fatigue. No wonder I have been more and more tired over the last week... Duh! :) Seriously, I have been fighting the tiredness until today. Trying to resist it, but then succumbing to naps. I will resist tiredness no more for the next few weeks!

In summary, my latest thought (true or not) - naps are medically necessary for me at this time! :)

Mark,

NAPS -- you gotta love 'em, sweetie! YES, it is the body's way of telling you to rest! My goodness, you are dealing with the extraordinary in medical treatments, so by all means, succumb to the pressure of needing naps!

Gotta tell you -- I love my naps, and I'm not receiving any medical treatments!!!

Keep us posted on updates...prayers are continual!

Love ya,

Mark,

Don't feel guilty about taking a nap. Everything I hear, taking a 20 minute nap every day is quite healthy. I take naps on the weekends. My boss would say I take them during the week too!! LOL

Is there a special meaning of your "98% chimp shirt"?

There is a reason that your body needs this extra rest. I'm relieved that you're not fighting it anymore. Remember, your health and well being is top priority above everything else. The only time you don't want to be snoozing is dinner time because I might help myself to your plate!

Mary,

Looking back a week, the reason for my extra tiredness was so obvious that I should be embarrassed! Naps are good...

Melvin,

Aren't you almost the boss? :)

I like all monkeys, especially chimps, and they share 98% of our DNA. That picture is getting old, though...

Big Monkey,

Yeah, my latest "problem" has been waking up around 5AM... No worries, because I nap to make up for it! :)

ahhhh...sleep habits!!! If I could be "20 again" I'd say I had the perfect sleep habits....BUT, now that I'm over "a certain age," -- it's absolutely horrid!!

Get sleepy around 10...fall into a quick nap! Wake up to watch some news, and am fully awake -- so it's Letterman or Leno, whomever has the best guests! THEN...I'll be lucky if I can get to sleep by 2 am. Should I be lucky to fall asleep in latter part of evening and stay asleep, I'm awake by 4 am...! that's just two stories...YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE REST OF THEM....lol... lol..

Just enjoy life, Mark...whether you're napping, awake, posting your blog, bugging Big Monkey, or enjoying Laura's good, healthy cooking!

Love ya, kiddo!

HAPPY lAST TREATMENT DAY!!!!!!
You should celebrate with a nap and then after the nap a snooze and then a slumbler until you have used every word you can think of that means sleep. Tomorrow, do it again...before you now it you will be back in the game!
My husband starts chemo and radiation on Tuesday, so we will be napping a lot too.
I think I gave you the info for his Carepage and blog but can't remember for sure, info overload in the last 5 weeks. His blog is richardwhayes.wordpress.com and then I write from my point of view on Carepages.com RichardHayes
Thanks again for sharing, it's been very helpful to me in preparing my husband for the days ahead.
Take Care, Lisa

Mark,

What a a a great testimony/advice from Lisa (above). I think it's wonderful to be sharing this information with each other and your friends/family.

Now, pat yourself on the back as you complete this last treatment -- and take a snooze!!!!!

We love ya, guy!

Cathy and I continue to pray for you.
Laura probably told you that Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are learning how to cope with the disease. Cathy is taking tamoxifen which makes her feel lousy at times, but the feeling passes. Be sure to let us know when you and Laura are up to a dinner out.

Naps rock! You and I seem to be similar creatures Marcus (no, I don't mean any reference to minkeys). I used to hate naps and avoid them in every way possible. But, they are good for your health and heck.....they are the best on a weekend afternoon outside! Leah and I nap every weekend when we get the chance. :) Anyway, continued prayers. We think about you constantly. Get well. We hope to see you soon.

Mary,

On odd sleep patterns, your stories qualify for REALLY odd sleep patterns! I hope they become more normal for your sake!

Lu & Gene,

One question. Will you be a permanent neighbor, or a snow-bird?

Lisa,

I will put a link to your husband's blog near the top of mine... I have been looking at it. Nice radiation photos... I also wish the best for you, Rich, and your family.

Thanks for your mutual support of me. I have a video of my last treatment that I need to edit before posting, but since Rich is in the radiation stage there will likely be nothing new to you...

George and Leah,

Thanks for your continued support! Naps=Good. Too many biting insects down here to nap outside of my house... Hmmm, I need to find an easy solution to that one.

Just know that I look for any opportunity to visit Pittsburgh, but my medical schedule keeps interfering! :(
